Stephen King Praises Netflix Thriller With Personal Confession

Stephen King Praises Netflix Thriller With Personal Confession

Horror author Stephen King tweeted that he relates to a show spotlighting a very real American crisis. We all know King loves a Netflix binge, so it would only be a matter of time before he discovered the popular series Painkiller. However, we were not prepared for him to share a bit of his personal experience when giving us his thoughts on the title.

It seems from Stephen King’s tweet that doctors wanted to prescribe him oxy after he was the victim of a hit-and-run. He mentions this happened in 1999, around when opioids became an even bigger crisis in the United States. Because King has always been pretty open about his road to sobriety, this makes an already upsetting situation that much more disturbing.

Read the synopsis below:

“A fictionalized retelling of events, Painkiller is a scripted limited series that explores some of the origins and aftermath of the opioid crisis in America, highlighting the stories of the perpetrators, victims, and truth-seekers whose lives are forever altered by the invention of OxyContin. An examination of crime, accountability, and the systems that have repeatedly failed hundreds of thousands of Americans. Painkiller is based on the book Pain Killer by Barry Meier and the New Yorker Magazine article ‘The Family That Built an Empire of Pain’ by Patrick Radden Keefe.”
