Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 8 Spoilers: Is Lena Becoming the New Danny?

Lena’s role reversal with Danny was fun, but I didn’t think it would be permanent.

Until now.

Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 8 spoilers have Lena taking a case personally again… what’s her connection this time?

Lena’s Personality Change Isn’t as Surprising as It Seems

Although Lena was introduced as a by-the-book cop, her first scene on Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 1 suggested that there was more fire to her than she usually displays.

I loved that introduction because she reminded me of Sergeant Bell on Law & Order: Organized Crime: a Black woman who is ten times as competent as the white men who think they know better and has had to be strategic about how she shows it.

  • Watson Season 2 Episode 9 Moves The Needle BACKWARDS on Autism Representation and It’s Not Okay
  • St. Denis Medical Season 2 Episode 7: No Wonder His Kidney Wants Out

That passion was going to come through sooner or later, though I’m not sure it’s being done in the best way.

According to the spoiler video for Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 8, Lena is not only disgusted by a gruesome murder, but takes matters into her own hands.

One clip in the video has Danny trying to talk her down after the fact, only for Lena to say that there are “no lines” for her to cross here.

That’s troubling, both from a story and a social messaging perspective.

Once a cop decides that justice is whatever they feel like doing to suspects, innocent people invariably get hurt, so this story will end up putting cops in a bad light — the opposite of what Donnie Wahlberg said he wanted to do for the Boston PD at the CBS Press Day in September.

Only One Result Makes the Storyline OK

This type of story is okay if it ends with Lena finally realizing she did go too far, but I hope it’s not Danny who delivers the lesson.

Danny has been a hothead most of his career, so it makes sense that he sees it in someone else he cares about.

However, on Blue Bloods Season 1 Episode 7, Danny had the self-awareness to realize that it was unusual for him to be the one insisting on following the rules while Lena acted impulsively.

That’s fine as a one-off thing. I enjoyed the story.

But it doesn’t work if the role reversal becomes permanent.

New shows often take a while to find their footing, including changing character dynamics to an extent, but ignoring the 14 years of history Danny had on Blue Bloods won’t work, so I hope this story is resolved some other way.

Lena Will Also Clash With Mae Over This Issue

I’m curious as to why Lena and Mae butt heads.

Of course, in general, Mae has a similar moral compass to Frank Reagan, so she won’t tolerate any nonsense from her daughter.

Plus, she could slip into the same argument Erin always used on Blue Bloods: if the police act up, the prosecution can’t possibly win the case, and the perp will end up back on the street.

This issue will probably strain the relationship between Mae and Lena, especially since the conviction of Ben’s killer is still at risk.

Why do you think Lena and Mae will butt heads?

That problem was mostly forgotten about on Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 7, but it needs to come back to bite everyone.

The Midseason Finale Is Coming Up…

…and I hope for a strong cliffhanger, especially one having to do with Ben’s killer potentially walking free.

Blue Bloods usually ignored this type of finale. It told the stories it told, took a hiatus, then returned.

  • 9-1-1: Nashville Is Making the Same Mistake as 9-1-1: Lone Star (And It’s Already Showing)

That’s one of the few criticisms I have of one of my favorite shows, and Boston Blue has the opportunity to correct it.

Since Boston Blue follows more of a conventional dramatic route, I fully expect the winter finale to leave my jaw on the floor, and the Ben story seems like a good bet for that.

Unfortunately, Sean and Jonah Are Slated For Another Ridiculous Story

At this point, it’s beating a dead horse to discuss how ridiculous their stories are.

But again: if I could change one thing about this show, it would be this aspect. Sean deserves better than comic relief, and this is not a realistic depiction of rookie cops.

According to Boston Blue Season 1 Episode 8 spoilers, this time Sean and Jonah get into a conflict with some firefighters.

Talk about a tired trope!

Also, Frank often defused such ridiculous, petty fights between the NYPD and the NYFD, so Sean should know better.

At this point, it’s difficult to have any hope that these two will ever be anything but comic relief, and not good comedy, either.

Let’s hope this story doesn’t waste too much airtime.
