Christina Applegate, who announced her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021, continues to stand up for members of the disability community, most recently drawing attention to a Skims campaign that includes adaptive wear for those with mobility issues. “Thank you @skims for showing how beautiful the disabled community is And for your adaptive line for those of us with mobility issues. Not sure how you could not appreciate this and think it was an ‘honest mistake,'” she wrote.

While many people applauded the 51-year-old “Dead to Me” actor for bringing attention to the shoot — also dropping names of other adaptive brands, like IZ Adaptive, and celebrating similar inclusive moments in fashion, such as Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty show — conservative commentator Candace Owens referenced a Skims model in a wheelchair on the Feb. 28 episode of her “Daily Wire” podcast in quite the opposite light: “I don’t really understand how far we’re going to take this inclusivity thing, I really don’t get it, and if I am wrong, educate me,” she said, continuing to make various other horrifying remarks.

Applegate’s recent discovery of Owens’s insensitive quotes led her to post a series of tweets in response, culminating with a follow-up that suggested she’d be open to a phone conversation with Owens to educate her. Owens’s infamous tweets about Harry Styles wearing a dress on the cover of Vogue also angered many people back in 2020 — but Applegate is not one to stay silent. She has been vocal about her medical journey since making her first public appearance following her diagnosis at her Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony.

After walking down the red carpet at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Awards with a cane alongside her daughter on Jan. 15, she addressed comments about her appearance and changing body. In November 2022, she spoke about her weight gain in an interview with The New York Times: “I put on 40 pounds; I can’t walk without a cane. I want people to know that I am very aware of all of that,” she said.

Meanwhile, Skims’s adaptive collection features a scoop bralette, triangle bralette, cami, brief, boy short, and thong in up to nine different colorways and has details such as fully adjustable straps and additional hook-and-eye closures stitched into the designs. You can shop a few of the looks ahead.
