Double Exposure Trailer Showcases Max’s New Powers
Max Caulfield’s time jumping abilities are getting an upgrade. Deck Nine and Square Enix revealed a new Life is Strange: Double Exposure video showcasing her new and improved powers.
How does Max’s new powers affect Life is Strange: Double Exposure gameplay?
Max Caulfield was limited to rewinding time for one timeline in 2015’s Life is Strange. In Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Max can now use Pulse and Shift between two separate timelines.
Pulse allows Max to peer through another timeline in real-time, displaying the differences as dimensional echoes. These echoes affect people and objects, so she can see exactly what is in front of her before Shifting into another timeline.
Using Pulse will also reveal points where the veil between timelines is weakest, allowing Max to physically Shift into the other reality. This power can be used to solve puzzles or aid in Max’s investigation. The video shows Max using her Shift power to retrieve an allen wrench for Moses. He doesn’t have one at his place in the current timeline, but did in the other.
Keeping track of each timeline may prove to be tough. It also seems it may affect the story in some way if players misremember certain aspects, as shown in the video when speaking to a character named Loretta. Those who want a bit of aid can go into the options an enable a UI indicator that tells the player which timeline they are in at all times. Additionally, in-game visual cues are present to help players keep track of where they are.
In Life is Strange: Double Exposure, Max Caulfield’s close friend Safi is murdered. When she attempts to rewind time, she opens a rift into a parallel timeline where Safi still lives. However, her friend is still in danger, and the murderer is ready to strike again in both timelines. Max must Shift between the two timelines to solve and prevent the same murder.
Life is Strange: Double Exposure launches October 29, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Preorders are available now. It is also coming to Nintendo Switch, but currently doesn’t have a release date.
