According to documents obtained by TMZ, Burton moved to California permanently after signing a new 3-year contract with General Hospital in June 2026. The contract details surfaced in court filings related to his custody dispute with Gustin.
Ahead of his return to GH, in February, Burton took to Instagram to announce his temporary hiatus from the show. He revealed that he’s newly married and wants to spend some time with family. “I’m grateful for all the support and will be back this summer,” he further added, expressing his gratitude to fans.
On the storyline front, before his return to Port Charles, Jason was sent to a WSB prison after taking the fall for the shooting of WSB agent Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). He debuted back on-air on July 13. During his first appearance since the hiatus, he did receive various complaints about his character’s haggard look, which Burton later acknowledged during the That’s Awesome podcast. He revealed that he made a “conscious decision” to get a new look.
“I’m like, ‘Okay, well, if I’m in jail, I should probably start slimming down… I’m gonna just kind of tighten things up, get a little leaner, just so I look a little more emaciated and then makeup can do what they do. And then maybe people will go, ‘Yeah, he was somewhere for like, three months not really eating and got beat up and a lot of bad stuff happened to him,’” he added.
