Harrison Ford Gets Emotional, Tears Up During Indiana Jones 5 Standing Ovation

Footage from the ongoing Cannes Film Festival recently made its way online, showing acting legend Harrison Ford getting emotional during an Indiana Jones 5 standing ovation.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny made its world premiere at the legendary film festival on Thursday. Following the end of the film, the crowd stood and applauded — as is customary at Cannes — leading to the Indiana Jones 5 standing ovation. Standing up to thank them, Ford could be seen getting emotional over the reception, which lasted for about five minutes according to Variety.

Alongside premiering the film at Cannes, Ford was also honored there as well. The actor received an honorary Palme d’Or for lifetime achievement at the festival. “I’m very moved by this … I’m so grateful to be able to work with artists like Jim, Phoebe, Mads, and I’m deeply moved by this honor,” Ford said (via THR).

What is Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny about?

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is once again led by Harrison Ford as he reprises one of his most iconic roles as the titular explorer. Joining him as the female lead is Emmy and Golden Globe winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The final installment also features the introduction of other franchise newcomers Antonio Banderas, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, and Shaunette Renée Wilson.

The long-awaited film is being directed by Oscar nominee James Mangold (Logan) from a new screenplay written with Jez and John-Henry Butterworth, who collaborated on Ford v Ferrari. Mangold took over the director’s chair after Steven Spielberg exited his directorial duties for the film. Despite his exit, Spielberg will still remain part of the film’s production as a producer.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall, and Simon Emanuel, with John Williams returning to score the film. It is set to be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.
