Sebastian Stan Wants a New Captain America Now

Sebastian Stan has spent more than a decade fighting alongside Earth’s mightiest heroes as Bucky Barnes. Now, the actor says he wants to trade his metal arm for the star-spangled shield, and he isn’t hiding it anymore.

Sebastian Stan is ready to become Captain America in MCU

During a recent chat with Josh Horowitz, the Avengers: Doomsday star made his pitch for Captain America loud and clear. “I always bring it up. Even the Captain America thing, I bring it up. I’m like, whenever—sorry, Anthony—I’m like, whenever, let’s go. I’m just saying, I’m ready, man,” Sebastian Stan said. “I’m at that sweet spot where I can still do some of it. It’s really more in terms of just the action bits that you want to do.”

The apology was aimed at Anthony Mackie, who inherited the shield as Sam Wilson. Marvel Studios never gave Bucky his comic-book turn as Captain America, jumping straight to Sam instead. Sebastian Stan accepts that choice but believes Bucky’s story isn’t finished. “I love the films that I was in: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, Infinity War, and Endgame. I’m so protective of it in a way, and I do feel like the evolution of the character was right,” he said. “I don’t think it should have gone differently. I never have any idea about what it is that they want to do, but I still feel that there’s something about this character that hasn’t totally yet been completed, and I think they know it.”

Fans have speculated about a BuckyCap debut in Avengers: Secret Wars, though Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything. Stan also reacted to Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers in Doomsday. “I was laughing because he was shooting in the movie and they had him isolated to a house, in a home far away like James Bond or something.”

For now, audiences can catch Sebastian Stan back as Bucky when Avengers: Doomsday releases in December.
