Supernatural Prequel The Winchesters and Kung Fu Canceled at The CW

The CW has canceled two more series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. These include Kung Fu and Supernatural spin-off, The Winchesters.

What shows have been canceled by The CW?

The move comes as network owner Nextstar continues to trim down its planned roster of shows. Kung Fu had run for three seasons and The Winchesters had run for just one. The shows join a growing list of canceled content over at The CW, including first-year show Walker: Independence.

In a statement on the move, the network called the move “tough” as they continue to “reimagine the CW,” and thanked both shows’ casts and creative teams for their work.

“As we reimagine the new CW, we had to make some tough programming decisions,” the network said in a statement. “We thank our partners at Warner Bros. and the casts and creative teams of Kung Fu and The Winchesters for all their hard work, creativity and dedication.”

At the start of the 2021-22 television season nearly two years ago, The CW had a total of 18 original scripted shows. Now, that number is down to 5, and according to THR, could continue to dwindle. In the report, it’s noted that The CW has three shows left to decide on, including the DC dramas Superman & Lois and Gotham Knights, and the spin-off All American: Homecoming.

THR notes that All American and Walker have been renewed, and that The CW is considering going into the fall having just two homegrown scripted originals. The remainder of the schedule consists of “unscripted series and lower-cost imports.”
