The Faculty Remake Is Happening, Writer & Robert Rodriguez’s Involvement Revealed
A remake of The Faculty is officially in the works.
Released in 1998, The Faculty is a science fiction horror film directed by Robert Rodriguez and written by Scream’s Kevin Williamson. The movie stars Jordana Brewster, Josh Hartnett, Robert Patrick, Elijah Wood, and more.
Per Variety, a remake of The Faculty is now officially happening at Miramax. Rodriguez is returning to produce the new film.
Who is writing the remake of The Faculty?
The remake of The Faculty is being written by Drew Hancock. Hancock wrote and directed the new horror film Companion, starring Jack Quaid and Sophie Thatcher, which hits United States theaters this weekend courtesy of Warner Bros. Pictures.
BoulderLight — a production company that worked on Companion, Anna Kendrick’s Woman of the Hour, Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, and more — is producing the new remake.
In addition to the aforementioned cast, the original version of The Faculty also stars Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Shawn Hatosy, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Chris McDonald, Bebe Neuwirth, and Jon Stewart.
“To the students at Harrington High, the principal and her posse of teachers have always been a little odd, but lately they’ve been behaving positively alien,” a description of the movie reads. “Controlled by otherworldly parasites, the faculty try to infect students one by one. Cheerleader Delilah (Brewster), football player Stan (Hatosy), drug dealer Zeke (Hartnett) and new girl Marybeth (Harris) team up with some of their other classmates to fight back against the invaders.”
Rodriguez most recently directed 2023’s Spy Kids: Armageddon, while he also helmed episodes of the Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett. His filmography further includes 1992’s El Mariachi, 1995’s Desperado, 1996’s From Dusk till Dawn, 2001’s Spy Kids, 2002’s Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams, 2003’s Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over, 2003’s Once Upon a Time in Mexico, 2005’s Sin City, 2007’s Planet Terror, 2010’s Machete, 2019’s Alita: Battle Angel, and more.
A release date has not yet been set for the remake of The Faculty. The original movie is currently streaming on MGM+ and Pluto TV.
