Matt Damon crashed Jimmy Kimmel‘s opening night in Brooklyn and got booed and escorted out of the theater by security. The actor interrupted the host’s monologue on Monday, September 28, by cheering for the Boston Red Sox from the audience.

The unexpected moment began when the host brought up the upcoming American League Wild Card Series between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.

Before the comedian asked the audience whether there were any Red Sox fans out there, Damon stood up from the audience and shouted, “Go Sox! Go Sox!” Reacting to this, some audience members cheered, while some booed the 55-year-old actor.

The late-night talk-show host pretended not to know the actor, calling him a “loser in the Red Sox cap” and ordering security to remove him. The Odyssey star claimed he was just there with family, and later revealed he came with Kimmel’s own mother and sister, who joined Damon as he was escorted out of the theater.

The gag added another chapter to the pair’s long-running comedic feud, which began in 2005. Kimmel originally started closing episodes with fake apologies for running out of time for the actor, even though he wasn’t present on the show.

The gag continued for years, including a 2023 attempt by Damon’s friend Ben Affleck to play peacemaker. Kimmel later revived the joke while hosting the 2024 Oscars. During the ceremony, he showed a clip of Messi, the dog from Anatomy of a Fall, appearing to urinate on Damon’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The latest stunt shows the familiar comedic feud is still going. Kimmel’s Brooklyn run continues through Friday, October 2, at the Howard Gilman Opera House.
