Chinghiale: Richard Armitage Plays the Hunter in Tuscany

Two friends go to a hill town in Tuscany to settle a family estate and fall in with a charming hunter who is hiding something. That is Chinghiale, now shooting in Barga with Richard Armitage as the hunter and Britt Robertson and Quelin Sepulveda as the friends. Deadline broke the cast and the start of production on Wednesday.

Jordan Tragash directs, and Kalil Sims and Alessandro Bertolucci fill out the cast. The production is working out of Barga, a medieval town in the Province of Lucca, and the title points at the wild boar that come down out of the hills and into the streets of the Garfagnana Valley.

Behind the Camera

Devon Gulati, Michael Panico, Kendra Avinger and Elenna Sindler are producing, with Marco Allegri co-producing. Aaron Harvey, Roger Ellis Frazier, Bertolucci, Harrison Moore, Jeremy Gilbreath and Jaiden Fallo Sauter are executive producers. No release date has been set. Shudder has another Italian horror title close behind, with Paolo Strippoli’s The Holy Boy landing November 27.

Armitage Has Been Here Before

Horror audiences know Armitage as Francis Dolarhyde, the Great Red Dragon, in the third season of NBC’s Hannibal, a part Tom Noonan and Ralph Fiennes had already carried on film. He led The Boy in 2016 and voiced Trevor Belmont across four seasons of Netflix’s Castlevania. Playing a courteous man with something buried in him is the register Armitage has been working in for a decade, and a hunter in the Tuscan hills is a good place to keep working it.
