Every New Thriller And Horror Release Coming To Hulu This July
Hulu might have my favorite lineup of genre movies and shows this summer. We might need extra days this month to get through all the content. This list is bonkers, nostalgic, and eclectic. Do you want a werewolf movie? Check out Dog Soldiers. Feeling like an early-aughts road thriller? Then Joy Ride is your movie! They even have I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is mandatory viewing this time of the year. The streamer has thought of every mood, and we are welcome.
However, this great problem has turned into a great responsibility. Picking just five titles is HARD. I still feel bad about leaving Queen of the Damned (RIP Aaliyah) off the list. Also, feeling like I should’ve disclosed that I’m thinking about tapping into The Hardy Boys now that it’s ending. We are truly drowning in content this month, and I am so stressed in all the good ways. Here are the five things I plan to put into my eyeballs the second they drop. Good luck to the rest of you!
Alien (1979)
The crew of a spacecraft encounters a new lifeform and immediately pisses it off. Alien is possibly the most iconic horror movie set in space in the history of cinema. Had the gang listened to women, we wouldn’t have gotten this sci-fi franchise. This movie is also how the genre gained Sigourney Weaver, and aren’t we better off for it? Hulu knew we might want more time in space because Earth isn’t so great. They’re giving us the chance to watch the first four films of the series this month, and that is what I intend to do.
Day of the Dead (1985)
A group of scientists and military personnel hide out in an underground bunker during a zombie outbreak. This series was George A. Romero’s baby, and each movie is a damn good time. I haven’t seen the complete Night of the Living Dead franchise, and the parts I have seen have been wildly out of order. So, I’m hoping some other streamers will assist Hulu in letting me right this wrong today. Help a girl help herself, ya’ll!
Deja Vu (2006)
After a terrorist bombs a ferry, the agency in charge of bringing him to justice has to enlist a new agent and send him back in time. Who among us doesn’t love a Denzel Washington sci-fi thriller? The combination of talent, charm, and older handsome guy energy is too much for even the strongest soldier. I don’t blame that agency for breaking open the emergency glass and unleashing Denzel to get things done.
What We Do in the Shadows (Season 5 Premiere)
A documentary crew gives us a glimpse into the house of Staten Island vampires. This show is silly, and delightful, and has me laughing like a dummy every episode. I’m so happy one of the best ensembles on TV is coming back already because I need to know what happens after last year’s season finale. Hulu knows how badly we missed it and is dropping the first two episodes of season 5 on July 13th. So, you know where I’ll be that day.
Wild Things (1998)
Sex, lies, and conspiracies drive this 90s film that drove my friends wild. It’s hard to be a kid of that era and not feel compelled to watch and rewatch this movie every time you get the chance. This neo-noir thriller also sees Neve Campbell take a wild departure from the films we’re used to seeing her in. Highly recommend it if you’re craving betrayal, evil plots, and dastardly characters.

There’s so much going on over at Hulu this month that I might have to call out of life a few times to watch everything. Luckily, that’s a sacrifice I am willing to make. If nothing else, I need to catch some of these 2022 movies I’ve missed like Vesper, The Old Man, and Smoking Causes Coughing. I should probably also cross Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019) off my list before my friends run me out of the group chat. I should stop talking about it and get started because time is running out. Happy Hulu Days, y’all!
Let me know which of these titles you’re most excited to see hit Hulu this month. We can nerd out together at @misssharai.
