Robopocalypse Series In the Works from Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman

Here comes the Robocalypse. And not the one you might be expecting.
THR reports that Imagine Entertainment and Weed Road are developing a Robopocalypse series based on the book by Daniel H. Wilson, with a concept that has Skynet would approve of.
Here’s the logline for the novel: “Not far into our future, the dazzling technology that runs our world turns against us. At Zero Hour—the moment the robots attack—the human race is almost annihilated, but as its scattered remnants regroup, humanity for the first time unites in a determined effort to fight back. Brilliantly conceived and amazingly detailed, Robopocalypse is an action-packed epic with chilling implications about the real technology that surrounds us.”
Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) will direct the pilot, with Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend) as showrunner. Goldsman will also write the pilot.
THR notes that no network or streamer is involved at this time.
Steven Spielberg’s (Jaws) Amblin Entertainment is executive producing the show. Worth noting is that Spielberg was once in line to direct a feature film adaptation wth a script from Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods). Michael Bay even took over the project as far back as 2018, but that didn’t come to fruition, either.
Howard told THR, “Robopocalypse has all the scale and suspense of a major action story, but what drew me to it are the thought-provoking themes and humanity at its center. Daniel created a future that feels both startling and increasingly plausible, with characters who must figure out what connects us when the technology we rely on turns against us. I am also thrilled to work with Akiva again. We have shared some incredibly meaningful creative experiences, and this feels like the right story to bring us back together.”
I couldn’t agree more with Howard here. While I haven’t read the novel, the premise ties into very real fears about a future that looks more and more plausible with A.I. With the talent involved, expect this to be a good one that I’m sure won’t be terrifying at all. Nope, definitely not going to make me nervous as hell while watching….
