‘Screamboat’ Trailer Reveals Terrifying Mickey Mouse Horror Film Starring Terrifier’s David Howard Thornton
Screamboat releases a new trailer, revealing more about the horror take on Steamboat Willie, featuring Terrifier star David Howard Thornton.
Since the iconic character of Mickey Mouse entered the public domain on January 1st, the floodgates have opened for a wave of creative reinterpretations—particularly in the horror genre. Earlier this year, we got a taste of this trend with the release of the short film The Vanishing of S.S. Willie. But perhaps one of the most anticipated projects is Screamboat, a horror movie inspired by Mickey’s first appearance in Steamboat Willie, now brought to life in a terrifying new way.
David Howard Thornton, known for his chilling portrayal of Art the Clown in the Terrifier films, stars as the horror version of Steamboat Willie in Screamboat. The film is directed by Steven LaMorte, who previously helmed the Grinch-inspired horror hit The Mean One, and is produced by Terrifier 2 producers Steven Della Salla and Michael Leavy. The newly released full-length trailer promises an even more intense experience than the initial teaser, showcasing the dark, twisted vision that this team has crafted.
Joining Thornton in the cast are Allison Pittel (Stream), Amy Schumacher (The Mean One), Jesse Posey (Teen Wolf), Jesse Kove (Cobra Kai), Rumi C Jean-Louis (Hightown), Jarlath Conroy (George A. Romero’s Day of the Dead), and Charles Edwin Powell (The Exorcist III). Filming wrapped up this summer, and the production has promised “a number of yet-to-be-announced cameo appearances” that fans of the genre are sure to appreciate.
Screamboat tells the story of a mischievous mouse that terrorizes a group of New Yorkers on a late-night ferry ride, turning a peaceful commute into a nightmarish bloodbath. With the unmistakable backdrop of New York City’s iconic skyline, this deadly creature sets its sights on the unsuspecting tourists, forcing a diverse group of ferry passengers to band together in a desperate fight for survival.
Adding to the excitement, Screamboat is slated to release around the same time as the much-buzzed-about live-action movie MVW: Mickey Vs. Winnie. This dark and twisted film also reimagines beloved childhood characters, pitting them against each other in a horrifying showdown. MVW: Mickey Vs. Winnie tells the story of two convicts who vanish into a cursed forest and are later grotesquely transformed into monstrous versions of Mickey and Winnie. A century later, a group of thrill-seekers returns to their former school, only to awaken this ancient evil. The cursed forest serves as the ominous setting where these once-innocent characters unleash terror upon anyone who dares cross their path.
With Screamboat and MVW: Mickey Vs. Winnie both pushing the boundaries of horror by twisting familiar characters into nightmarish forms, this upcoming January promises to be a landmark moment for fans of the genre.
According to the latest press release, Screamboat is set to feature an exciting blend of practical creature effects, miniatures, and cutting-edge virtual production. The filmmakers have doubled down on their promise of “buckets of blood and unhinged chaos,” ensuring that this will be a horror experience unlike any other.
Director Steven LaMorte expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m thrilled to be working on Screamboat with such a killer cast from horror legends to comedy icons. David Howard Thornton is bringing our mischievous and murderous take on Steamboat Willie to life like never before. I can’t wait for audiences to laugh and scream with us onboard Screamboat!“
Thornton added: “I’m beyond excited to join this incredible cast and bring Steamboat Willie to life with a horror twist. Screamboat is going to be a horrific and hilarious big screen thrill ride that fans won’t want to miss.“
With the film’s release date set for January 2025, Screamboat will be hitting theaters thanks to Iconic Events Releasing. The full-length trailer has only heightened the anticipation, giving fans a closer look at the mayhem in store.
