The 10 Most Shocking Movies, According To Fans [Watch]

The 10 Most Shocking Movies, According To Fans [Watch]

Reddit continues to ask the important questions this month. User u/LeKanePetit entered the chat wanting to know what was the last film to genuinely shock other members of the community. While many titles were thrown out, these were the 10 that seemed to be the most upsetting to others on the thread.

10. Terrifier (2016)

Where You Can Watch: Peacock, Plex, Prime Video, The Roku Channel, Tubi, and Vudu

A woman becomes the target of a sadistic murderous clown in this movie. While that sounds relatable to many of us who have tried dating, Art the Clown takes it a few steps further than ordinary incels.

9. Hereditary (2018)

Where You Can Watch: HBOMax

A family finds out the matriarch they are grieving had put sinister plans into motion for them before dying. This movie is undeniably creepy and packs a few surprises. However, I was surprised to see how many Reddit users think it’s shocking.

8. Human Centipede 2 (2011)

Where You Can Watch: Tubi

A disturbed man attempts to create a 12-person centipede. I can’t imagine the shock of watching this movie because I avoid this franchise like my student loan officers. The posters and title gave me enough to make me feel a bit sick.

7. The Thing (1982)

Where You Can Watch: Peacock

A team stranded in Antarctica must battle a shape-shifting alien to survive. This is one of my favorite John Carpenter movies, and I love it. I think it’s creepy, and I love it when people talk about it, but I was shocked Reddit added it to this list.

6. Irréversible (2002)

Where You Can Watch: AMC+

After assaulted a woman is assaulted, her ex-boyfriend and current lover take matters into their own hands. This movie showed me that I’m not a fan of French extremity, and I tapped out after about twenty minutes. The story is told in reverse chronological order, and lots of critics love that.

Content Warning: This movie contains scenes of sexual assault

5. Men (2022)

Where You Can Watch: Showtime

After the death of her ex-husband, a woman goes on vacation in the English countryside. I think this movie landed on this list because of the ending. At least that’s what most people highlight when talking about what they loved about it.

4. Soft & Quiet (2022)

Where You Can Watch: Netflix

A group of white women practice racism and antisemitism before committing a hate crime. I had hoped to avoid ever having to write about this movie because I don’t want to give it attention or ever have my name attached to it. Its goal is seemingly shock value at all costs, so I’m not surprised most Reddit folks thought of it.

Content Warning: This title is racial trauma porn, and I wish I had read a detailed summary to avoid what I went through.

3. The Nightingale (2018)

Where You Can Watch: Hulu and Tubi

An Irish woman seeks revenge for an act of violence committed against her family in 1825. I’m not familiar with this title, but I will show up for anything directed by Jennifer Kent. I’m excited to see if it’s as shocking as Reddit says it is.

2. Eden Lake (2008)

Where You Can Watch: Plex, PlutoTV, Prime Video, Redbox, Tubi, and Vudu

A young couple cross paths with a group of teens and find themselves in a deadly feud. This movie might have one of the bleakest endings I have ever seen. The couple is played by Kelly Reilly and  Michael Fassbender, and I wish Kelly had taken home some awards for her performance.

1. Speak No Evil (2022)

Where You Can Watch: Shudder

A family goes on holiday with another family and struggles to remain polite as they experience unpleasantness. This is possibly the movie I disagree with the most and am even more confused it’s the one that got the most interaction from Reddit users. I continue to think I watched a completely different movie than the rest of the internet.
