The Fourth Film in the Franchise Offers Up a Spooky New Title With ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’
Each episode of The Last Drive-In is a mysterious event for the fans at AMC+ and Shudder. We never know what the movies are, what spectacular cosplay Darcy will wear, or if the surprise guests are even going to show up. We can only expect that Joe Bob has curated some gory eye candy for us to consume.
Joe Bob and Darcy must have thought that amount of uncertainty simply wasn’t enough this year and turned The Last Drive-In into The Late Drive-in. Scrapping the trailer park set for a late-night talk show production was a decision that no one would have seen coming. Did it work? Absolutely it did! In a way that only The Last Drive-In could pull off.
This new formula broke up the tradition just enough to allow some room for new shenanigans. I won’t spoil it for you but let’s just say David Dastmalchian (Late Night with The Devil) eyes get a little wide around boa constrictors.
We also get to see the hilarious Bobcat Goldthwait (Willow Creek), always easy on the eyes Peaches Christ (All About Evil), and the very evil Danhausen (AEW). We even get a appearance from the mangled dick expert herself Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp). Throw in Fabio Frizzi and The Frizzi Band and we have a spectacular viewing experience.
All of this is just icing on the cake though. The actual cake is Joe Bob Briggs doing what he does best. Tearing apart horror films and rebuilding them right in front of our eyes. Starting the season off strong we have two films by the renowned Lucio Fulci.
Gracefully splattering our tv and phone screens with blood and gore are Zombie 2 and The Beyond. Fulci may have been a sadist who tortured his cast and crew while making these films, but the man knows how to execute an eye shot in excruciating detail.
One could even say he has an eye for detail… Ok, that’s enough eye references for one lifetime. I hope to see you all this Friday at 9 pm EDT during the live stream. I will be live-tweeting with the rest of the mutant family. As always, make sure to check back here for more updates on The Last Drive-in.
