The ‘Leprechaun’ 8-Film Digital Collection is On Sale This Weekend
Tis the season for… killer green men? In the spirit of the good green season, Vudu is presently running a sale where all eight films in the Leprechaun canon are available for digital purchase at the sweet, sweet price of $9.99. Stick that in your pot of gold.
The series first started in 1993 when Friends alum Jennifer Aniston (before she was big, as is almost always the case) contends with Warwick Davis’ evil creature after he is mistakenly set free from a basement crate. It’s pretty ridiculous, though there’s something to be said for the sheer B-movie thrill of watching Davis’ villain chase down prospective victims on a tricycle.
Check out the full collection below:
• Leprechaun
• Leprechaun 2
• Leprechaun 3
• Leprechaun 4: In Space
• Leprechaun: In the Hood
• Leprechaun: Back 2 tha Hood
• Leprechaun: Origins
• Leprechaun Returns
From there, the series only grew weirder. The titular menace went to space, the “hood,” and, well, the “hood” again (Back 2 tha Hood). WWE Studios incredulously decided to reboot the franchise with a grittier tone and more straightforward creature feature scares in 2014 with Leprechaun: Origins to little fanfare. The SyFy network then opted to reboot the franchise again, an early template for the legacy sequel craze, only without any legacy players. 2018’s Leprechaun Returns saw the little guy back for more murderous action, though portrayed this time by Linden Porco after Davis declined to return.
There have been plans for a Candyman crossover, though presently, the future of the series remains uncertain. In the interest of nostalgia, then, fans can snag the admittedly solid deal now. That’s eight movies for just over a dollar a pop. While it’s not as enticing as a physical collection, there’s plenty of fun to be had with the series writ large this weekend.
What do you think? Do you plan to purchase the digital collection? Which movie in the series is your favorite? Are any of them your favorite? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
