The TV Adaptation Of Horror’s Bloodiest Franchise is Set to Shred Into Hulu

Today we remember our fallen comrades. Mindhunter on Netflix, you will be missed. The Exorcist on Fox? Gone too soon. And, of course, the casualty that probably hurts the most—Starz’s cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead. Airing from 2015 to 2018, the series ran three seasons before its abrupt cancellation. With a stacked cast including Lucy Lawless, Samara Weaving, Ted Raimi, and, of course, Bruce Campbell, Ash vs. Evil Dead was more than a cult novelty—it was a love letter to not just the series, but the horror genre writ large. Now Hulu is getting in on the action.

Now, just in time for Halloween, Hulu has announced that all three seasons of the show will be available to stream this year starting October 1. The premiere, directed by one Sam Raimi, is some of the finest horror television around. Fans overwhelmed by the increasingly complex timeline introduced in 2013’s Evil Dead and this year’s Evil Dead Rise will be happy to note Ash vs. Evil Dead returns to the original timeline, introducing both familiar and new faces, ensuring both legacy fans and newcomers can easily pick up on the Deadite mayhem.

Unfortunately, viewership lagged, resulting in Starz canceling the series after the third season finale. A tantalizing finale saw Ash awaken in a post-apocalyptic world after the titular evil dead have taken over, though fans never got to see the full scope of what that entailed. Maybe the recently announced animated series will see the original story through to completion.

There is plenty else hitting Hulu this Halloween, so make sure to stay tuned in to Dread Central for the latest Halloween offerings from all your (many, many) streamers. What do you think?
