Apple Smoothie with Spinach Recipe
This creamy and nutritious Apple Smoothie with Spinach is the perfect way to start the day.
It’s made with just a few simple ingredients, including apples, bananas (or yogurt), baby spinach leaves (you can’t even taste them), lemon juice, and water. It’s packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and it’s a great way to get your daily dose of fruits and vegetables.
Plus, it comes together in just a few minutes, so it’s perfect for anyone who needs something healthy and quick.
Ingredients
- 1 Medium Red Apple: You’ll need 1 medium red apple, cored and seeds removed, peel left on, and cut into 2-inch chunks to make it easier on your blender. Apples are a good source of fiber, vitamin C, and potassium. They also contain antioxidants that can help protect your cells from damage.
- 1 Small Banana: You’ll need 1 peeled banana to make your Apple Spinach Smoothie extra creamy. If you’re not a fan of bananas, you can replace them with your preferred yogurt. Also, if you like a creamier smoothie, use a frozen banana! Bananas are a good source of potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. They also contain fiber, which can help you feel full.
- Baby Spinach Leaves: Put in about 2 handfuls (2 loose cups) of fresh baby spinach leaves. Baby spinach is tender and a little sweeter than mature spinach leaves. The apple, banana and lemon mask the taste of the spinach, so it’s a great way to get your greens if you don’t love the taste of raw greens. Spinach is a great source of vitamins A, C, and K. It also contains folate, magnesium, and iron. Spinach is a powerful antioxidant that can help protect your cells from damage.
- Fresh Lemon Juice: For this Apple Spinach Smoothie recipe, you’ll need the juice of 1/2 a lemon. That’s about 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, but you can add more if you like your smoothie to be on the sour side. Fresh lemon juice is a good source of enzymes, vitamin C, and antioxidants. It can also help boost your immune system and improve digestion. I don’t recommend using bottled lemon juice in smoothies as it’s usually just citric acid mixed with water and lemon flavor and doesn’t have the same health benefits of fresh lemon juice.
- Water: You’ll need 1.5 cups of filtered water, but you can add more during the blending process if needed. If your banana isn’t frozen, I like to add 5-6 ice cubes to this smoothie, too. Use almond milk (or your preferred milk) if you want to make this apple smoothie extra creamy.
- (Optional) Honey: If your apple isn’t sweet, add 1-2 teaspoons of raw honey to sweeten your smoothie. Raw honey is full of enzymes and beneficial nutrients.
This recipe is flexible, so feel free to add your preferred smoothie ingredients, like protein powder, or you can use your preferred milk instead of water to make it extra creamy.
If you like your smoothie to be thick, add more banana or yogurt, but if you like it thinner, add more ice, milk, or water.
