Fun Fiction Reads from 2023
Looking for a fun fiction read to get lost in a good story?
Here are a few of the books that I’ve enjoyed this past year. From glamorous Hollywood stories to strong women overcoming terrible odds to suspenseful mysteries and more, there’s something for everyone on this list.
You can find all of these and more over on my Amazon books page—I’m always adding books that I’ve read and loved to it!
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
I really enjoyed The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It’s a glamorous and juicy Hollywood story about the life of Evelyn Hugo, a fictional Old Hollywood starlet. The book is told in flashback, as Evelyn recounts her life and career to a young journalist. It’s a fascinating and addictive read, and I couldn’t put it down.
Lessons in Chemistry
Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus was another huge winner for me.
It’s a historical fiction novel set in the 1960s, and it follows the story of Elizabeth Zott, a brilliant scientist who is determined to make her mark on the world. Elizabeth is a complex and inspiring character, and I loved reading about her journey. This one was recently turned into a series on Apple TV—I can’t wait to watch it.
Mad Honey
I loved Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult. It is a beautifully written and thought-provoking novel that explores important themes such as abuse, trauma, gender identity, and resilience. The characters are complex and relatable, and the story is full of twists and turns. I couldn’t put it down!
The Perfect Marriage
Ok, I have to say, this salacious-style read is typically not my style, but I was SO entertained by The Perfect Marriage by Jeneeva Rose. It is a gripping psychological thriller with a gripping storyline and mostly relatable characters. The main character, Sarah, is a strong and intelligent lawyer who is forced to make difficult choices when her husband is accused of murder. It’s a fast-paced thriller that was a great distraction earlier this year when the stress of our renovation was getting to me. Don’t take it too seriously, it’s simply a fun read! It’ll keep you guessing until the end.
One of Us is Dead
One of Us is Dead is another book Jeneva Rose. And it’s another salacious-style read. It’s the story of the catty women of Buckhead―a place of expensive cars, huge houses, and competitive friendships. The main character, Jenny, owns Glow, the most exclusive salon in town. This book made me laugh and nod along and turn pages until the end, I had to find out who did it. If you want a quick, Real-housewives-style, not-too-serious mystery story to escape for a few hours, this is it.
Overall, I would highly recommend all of these books. They are all well-written and entertaining, and they offer something for everyone.
Again, you can find these and other books I liked over in the books section of my Amazon Storefront (I’m always adding to it!) or anywhere else you like to buy books.
