Target vs. Amazon Swimwear Showdown
For budget friendly swimwear (or ANY type of wear) Target and Amazon are at the top of our lists. However, buying swimsuits online can be a bit tricky. We find ourselves asking, “Does it REALLY look that on?”, “WILL it cover my backside?”, “How is the support up top?” – just to name a few. We compared two other favs: Summersalt vs Athleta last year and thought it was time for another swimwear showdown!
The LIY Team & Ambassadors are putting Target vs. Amazon suits 👙 to the test; showing them on a variety of heights, sizes, body types, and ages! Ready to see the winners….🏆 keep on reading!
P.S. if you’re looking for more Amazon only swimsuits we love, it’s all right here!
Macy 4’11” Size XS, 00/0
Target Top [size up if in between] Target Bottoms [size up if in between] // Amazon Bikini Set [tts]
Target easily won this comparison for me! This high waisted suit had so much more tummy and booty coverage than the Amazon set. A lot of times swimsuits are too big around my waist but don’t cover my booty completely. But this XS suit covered everything comfortably! Perfect for mom-ing at the beach or the pool with my babies!
Steph’s Favorite One Piece [5’3, 38DDD, Size 10/12]
Target Crochet High Neck One Piece [TTS, wearing in L] // Amazon Daci Cutout Suit [WINNER! TTS, wearing in size L]
Target Shade & Shore Twisted Top [true to size, wearing in 36DD] // Target Shade & Shore Bottoms [size up if in between, wearing in medium] // Amazon One Shoulder High Waist Bikini [true to size, wearing in medium]
Let the showdown begin! I’ve been a big fan of the Shade & Shore brand at Target for a couple of years now as I love that it offers some of the cutest styles in bra-sized swimwear! When I spotted this twisted cutie I knew I had to try it. After putting it on, I felt like the top looked bulky and maybe had too much padding going on up there. Overall, I felt like it left me looking a little too top-heavy. Insert this bright beauty from Amazon. I was pleasantly surprised with the fit and quality for under $30! She’s the winner in my books and I will be rockin’ her all summer long!
Jen’s 5’7, 34B, size M/6
Target Top [true to size, wearing 34B] Target Bottoms [true to size, wearing M] // Amazon Essentials Top[true to size, wearing M] Amazon Essentials Bottoms[true to size, wearing M]
Eeekkk, this one was a close race friends! I’m going with Target as my ultimate winner for this showdown as the quality feels overall better and I believe the suit will hold up for a longer. I could be totally wrong here! For the price on both – you might as well get them each! They both cover the bum nice and are very flattering. Top wise, the Target top has a underwire/bra type shelf which I kind of enjoy some days to give the girls an extra little boost[you know what I mean] But I did feel very secure in the Amazon top as well, and love that you have full strap adjustment control there. So like I said, these suits for me are neck and neck… but Target comes out a little bit in the lead, making it the winner!
Claire 5’5″ Size M/L, 10-12
Target Suit [TTS, wearing Large] // Amazon Suit [TTS, wearing Large]
Amazon for the win! Before I even slipped into these suits, I knew the Amazon version was going to be a winner. The material felt much softer and more matte in comparison to Target’s shiny, thin fabric. I also love that the Amazon suit has a rubber band along the back to hold it in place. The straps were also thicker and more supportive for the girls! I think the Target suit would be great for someone with a smaller chest or an adult vacay (definitely not for mamas chasing around littles!). It doesn’t leave much to the imagination! 😉 Both are great (and sexy!) little numbers, but I felt most comfortable and confident in the Amazon find!
Katy 5’4″ Size XS/S, 2
Target Swimsuit [size up if in between] // Amazon Swimsuit [true to size, wearing Orange]
While I love Target, I tried MANY suits and none of them really stood out as a LOVE for me. However, this Amazon suit has quickly become my favorite suit of the season! In person the coverage is great, it’s so comfortable, and comes in SUCH fun colors. So many of you said you’re are trying it as well! It’s also the perfect swimsuit for nursing because of the zipper!
Lauren 5’6″ Size M/L, 8-10
Target Plunge Flounce [true to size, wearing large could have done medium] // Amazon Ribbed Cutout [size up, wearing in large]
If you’re looking for an affordable suit that will suck you in, show off a *bit* of skin, and have chest support, this Amazon suit is a great option! I tried a lot [and I mean a lot] of Amazon suits, and this was by far my favorite for control in all the places! The Target suit didn’t have much suction to it, and no support up top! While I love Target for almost everything, I struck out on their suits this year!
Debbie 5’5″ Size S, 4
Target Top [size up 1] // Target Bottoms [size up 1] // Amazon Swimsuit [true to size]
I really loved both of these suits but I think the big winner is Amazon! Both of these suits are good quality but I picked Amazon because I really liked the full coverage bottoms. I liked the high cut of the Target bottoms but the back had a little less coverage. I also loved the buttons on the Amazon top. So cute! The Target top was cut a little bit lower in more of a scoop neck style so I felt a little more exposed.
Allison 6′ Size L, 8/10
Target Swimsuit [size down if in between] // Amazon Swimsuit [true to size] // Similar coverup
Allison here! The Amazon suit was my favorite by far. The coverage was great, the chest support was good (34G), and the length was perfect for my 6 foot frame. The Target suit was cute, not a ton of chest support (although I did think the keyhole accent was a nice addition), and I felt the sides came down a little too low on my hips, and it looked a little too matronly for my liking.
Heather 6′ Size S, 4
Target Swimsuit [true to size] // Amazon Swimsuit [Sized up to a Medium, which is my go to one piece suit size for length, if you don’t need length I would stay in your true to size]
I really like both of these suits and think I will get a lot of use out of them this summer! The Amazon one is the winner for me! I love the bright colors, cut out and fit! This suit is not a long torso size, but works great for my 6′ frame as the straps are adjustable in the back. I definitely think this one is tall girl friendly! The Target suit has a little more coverage and will be great for chasing the kiddos around the pool. This one is a long torso size and the length for me is great. I chose the Amazon suit as my winner as I like the fit, cut and style the best! Tall friends, I don’t think you could go wrong with either of these!
Ashley 5’8″ Size M, 4/6
Target Top [size up] // Target Bottoms [true to size] // Amazon Swimsuit [true to size]
Hey, hey! Ashley, here 🤗 Do you know hard it is to narrow it down to two bathing suits from these retailers!? It took me hours, maybe days. Lol! I selected this super cute option from Amazon because of the lemon print 🍋 It’s just a happy pattern! The reviews were wonderful and there are several color combinations to choose from. My Target option got me based on the deep green color…it’s kind of my favorite. Notice how I’m matching my bedroom wall 🤷🏽♀️ I have to say the Amazon option is super comfortable & I love how the top does add a little boost to my small chest without being bulky. This was opposite for the Target suit. I ordered my normal bra size 34B and it’s very tight fitting. I would recommend sizing up. I have been working out quite a bit so I do feel that could be part of why it feels snug. Overall, I just feel better in the Amazon suit (could be the lemons) but I will be heading to the beach/pool in both come Summer!
