The Best Skinny Watermelon Margarita

Skinny Watermelon Margarita in glasses Elizabeth Rider

Summer is around the corner, which means it’s time for a Skinny Watermelon Margarita!

I’m not a big cocktail drinker, but I really enjoy a skinny watermelon margarita. When the sun comes out, there’s nothing quite like a cool, refreshing, low-sugar cocktail or mocktail on the patio at 4 o’clock on a Friday.

While everyone has their own opinions on how to make the best margarita, for me, I have to say that the only way to make a great marg is on the rocks—never blended! However, we do blend the watermelon here, so pretty much everyone will love this.

My Skinny Watermelon Margarita is not only delicious but also uses fresh, wholesome ingredients.

This recipe is perfect for those evenings when you just want to unwind and treat yourself—without the ridiculous amounts of added sugar and preservatives that come in most pre-made cocktail mixes.

You’ll Need:

Skinny Watermelon Margarita Ingredients

  • Tequila Blanco (I like Casamigos; or you can use your favorite tequila)
  • Seedless Watermelon
  • Fresh lime juice (get at least 2 limes for every batch of 4 margaritas)
  • Triple sec (like as Cointreau); you could substitute fresh orange juice in a pinch
  • Honey or simple syrup
  • Mint leaves (optional (but recommended!), for garnish)
  • Ice
  • Sea salt (optional, to rim the glasses)

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Flat dish (for honey and salt)
  • Glasses for serving
  • Knife (for cutting watermelon and lime)

This Skinny Watermelon Margarita recipe is a lower-sugar option compared to traditional cocktails, and it’s also absolutely delicious and refreshing. My Ranch Water Recipe also offers a low-sugar cocktail option, and you can bookmark the Low-Sugar Cocktail page on this site for future reference if you’d like, we’re always adding more to it.

My last note: These Skinny Watermelon Margaritas taste amazing! So amazing, in fact, that they go down smoothly, and it’s easy to forget there is alcohol in them 😉 Please always drink responsibly.

If you’re looking for a non-alcoholic treat, skip the tequila for a fantastic mocktail that everyone can enjoy!

Description

This Skinny Watermelon Margarita is a low-sugar cocktail and the perfect way to savor the natural flavors of your ingredients while enjoying a moment of relaxation. It’s light, flavorful, and just right for sharing on any sunny day.

  • 1/2 cup (4 ounces) of tequila blanco (I’m a fan of Casamigos for its smooth finish)
  • 5 cups of cut seedless watermelon chunks (the fresher, the better!)
  • 1/2 cup of fresh lime juice (plus a few extra slices for garnish)
  • 3 tablespoons of triple sec (Cointreau works wonders here)
  • 2 tablespoons of honey or simple syrup (for a touch of natural sweetness)
  • Ice
  • Mint leaves (for garnish)
  • Sea salt (for the glass rims, optional but recommended for that extra zing)

  1. Blend Your Base: In your blender, combine the tequila, watermelon, lime juice, triple sec, and honey. Blend until everything is smooth and perfectly mixed. This is your margarita base—vibrant and ready to go!

  2. Prepare Your Glasses: Pour a little honey onto a flat dish and spread some sea salt on another. Gently press the rim of each glass first into the honey, then into the salt. This will give your drink a delightful sweet and salty kick that complements the watermelon beautifully.

  3. Serve and Enjoy: Fill the prepared glasses with ice. Pour the watermelon margarita mixture over the ice, and garnish each glass with a sprig of mint and a slice of lime. The mint adds a fresh pop of flavor that really makes the drink sing!

Notes

  • Mocktail Version: Simply skip the tequila for a fantastic mocktail that everyone can enjoy
  • *You can sub fresh orange juice for the Triple Sec in a pinch if you need to
  • Always drink responsibly—nobody wants to be that guest who turns the party into a siesta! Cheers to deliciously smart choices 🍉🍹
