Laura Jane Grace Mocks Jay Weinberg’s Firing from Slipknot

Jay Weinberg received a tremendous amount of support from fellow musicians upon being let go from Slipknot, but not from his former Against Me! bandmate Laura Jane Grace. The singer-guitarist mocked the drummer’s ouster from the masked metal band, even calling him a “little bitch boy.”

The cantankerous relationship between Grace and Weinberg dates back to the drummer’s stint in Against Me! and eventual departure from the punk band. Weinberg was a member of Against Me! from 2010 to 2012, and when he joined Slipknot in 2014, Grace tweeted, “Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag.”

In another series of tweets at that time, Grace wrote, “We once had a drummer who sprained his ankle and wanted our tour manager to call 911 and have an ambulance come for him #entitlement. When our tour manager said no the drummers Daddy called him and scolded him saying the drummer was a ‘star’ and needed to be treated as such. We once had a drummer who threatened to sue us after he quit via twitter #entitlement. We once had a drummer who told me to move aside on stage cause the audience couldn’t see enough of him #entitlement. I’m just kidding, none of that ever happened.”

After Weinberg revealed on Saturday (November 11th) that he was “heartbroken and blindsided” by Slipknot’s decision to fire him last week, Grace wrote in a since-deleted post on X (screengrab via Lambgoat below), “Oh does it suck to find out via Twitter little bitch boy,” adding, “If true, poetic justice.”

Personal vendettas aside, Weinberg mostly received an outpouring of encouragement from other musicians, especially his fellow drummers.

Green Day’s Tré Cool wrote, “I have so much admiration and respect for you, Jay. You are still yet to make the best music of your life. You are young. The future is yours for the taking and I’m excited to see what you bring into to the world next! You’re truly a special drummer.”

Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy commented, “This is only the end of one chapter…you have MANY MORE to write Bro!! Always have your back”.

Jay’s dad, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band drummer Max Weinberg, wrote, “For 33 years you’ve made your mom and I 100% proud. This moment is no exception. You’re a class act! Love Dad”

Laura Jane Grace recently announced a new album, Hole in My Head, due out February 16th, along with a run of 2023-2024 tour dates (tickets available here).
