Watch Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Sad13, and Bully’s Alicia Bognanno Cover Pavement’s “Grounded”
On Saturday night (October 1), Pavement took a break from their ongoing reunion tour to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Pavements 1933-2022: A Pavement Museum. The Manhattan exhibition included a number of artifacts—genuine and bogus—from the band’s history, as well as a batch of live cover sets. Among the performers were Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy, Bully, and Speedy Ortiz. At one point in the evening, Bully’s Alicia Bognanno, Snail Mail’s Lindsey Jordan, Soccer Mommy’s Sophie Allison, and Speedy Ortiz’s Sadie Dupuis joined forces to play “Grounded” from Pavement’s 1995 LP Wowee Zowee. Watch it happen via Brooklyn Vegan.
The Pavement Museum is located at 475 Greenwich Street in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood, though the event ends today (October 2). The collection includes previously unseen imagery, artwork, ephemera, and “rumored relics of the band’s real and imagined history,” as the exhibition’s website states. After opening in New York, the collection will travel to London and Tokyo before settling permanently in the band’s hometown of Stockton, California. The NYC ceremony coincided with Pavement’s sold-out run at Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.
Since announcing their highly-anticipated reunion dates last year, Pavement have launched a string of reissue campaigns, including deluxe versions of Terror Twilight, Spit on a Stranger, and Slanted & Enchanted. In August, the band was honored with special album-themed pierogi at an event in Parma, Ohio. Pavement did not get to taste their pierogi, however, until last month.
