My Life With The Walter Boys Season 3 Teases a Clash Between Past & Present… But It Looks Like More of the Same

My Life With the Walter Boys is FINALLY back!

That means we’ll find out what happened to George and get ready for 10 all-new episodes about Jackie’s ongoing attempt to fit in with the Walters as she figures out who she is and who she wants to be.

The new trailer just dropped, and some parts are exciting… yet the triangle at the center of the story feels mostly like more of the same old thing.

The Good News: Jackie Might Have Another Love Interest Altogether

After spending most of My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2 trying to make a relationship work with Alex, Jackie admitted she still loved Cole — in front of an eavesdropping Alex.

After two seasons, I was frankly tired of the back-and-forth, and agreed with Grace’s suggestion that maybe Jackie should just pick a boy and be done with it.

I know some people love these types of triangles, but I find them wearisome, and, unfortunately, it appears that My Life With the Walter Boys Season 3 will feature more of the same.

Jackie tells Cole in one scene that she never stopped loving him, only for him to tell her they can’t be together, and there’s plenty more where that came from.

However, the latest complication might make things a lot more interesting: Uncle Richard returns with new/old love interest Elliot, a boy Jackie knew before her parents’ death who is eager to pick up where he left off.

I’ve long thought that Jackie should walk away from both of these guys and find someone who is not technically her adopted brother, especially since she can’t seem to make up her mind between them.

Elliot brings a new type of drama: can Jackie reconcile her past and present?

We know she won’t be leaving the ranch any time soon since Netflix has already ordered My Life With the Walter Boys Season 4, but it’s about time for her to explore whether there’s any room for the people she knew before in the life she lives now.

It’s Easy to Forget That My Life With The Walter Boys Began With a Tragedy

This series, more often than not, sells itself as a lighthearted teen drama, although it sometimes touches on more serious issues.

Jackie wouldn’t be living with the Walters if her parents weren’t dead.

My Life With the Walter Boys Season 2 explored the scars the trauma left on Jackie.

She honored her parents’ memory on Day of the Dead after returning from New York, and acknowledged that her Mexican culture and heritage were completely ignored by her surrogate family.

Elliot’s arrival should help push that sub-theme a little bit further.

That’s one of the reasons I want Jackie to walk away from the Walters brothers for good, even though it would change the show’s heart.

Jackie’s Story Should Be About Her Full Journey

The title says it all: the series is about Jackie’s life. Not just this eternal love triangle that keeps going in circles.

The best parts of My Life With The Walter Boys have always been the stories about Jackie’s journey through adolescence.

That was especially the case during Season 2 when she ran for class president and learned to put herself out there and stand up for what she believed in.

George’s illness, Richard’s return, and the introduction of Elliot should help her do more of that, although the love triangle continues to be too dominant.

What do you think? Do you want Jackie to be with Cole, Alex, Elliot, or nobody? What do you hope My Life With the Walter Boys Season 3 focuses on?
