Platonic Season 2 Episode 3 Review: Will’s Bachelor Party Tests the Boundaries of Old Friendships

Will and Sylvia’s relationship remains the best part of Platonic, and their relationship antics were highlighted during Will’s bachelor party on Platonic Season 2 Episode 3.

Bachelor and Bachelorette parties always bring plenty of laughs, and adding their old friend Wild Card (Beck Bennett) only added to the amusement.

Three-way friendships can be awkward, and they provided laughs, awkwardness, and insightfulness as they realized how much they had changed since their crazy and wild days.

While much of the episode focused on the trio, Charlie’s new arc also kicked off, and we can’t wait until it ramps up.

Sylvia Longs For the Young, Dumb, and Crazy Days

Sylvia must have missed getting out because mothers don’t generally boast to their children about their wild escapades from college.

It cracked me up that she was sure that would make her the cool mom, but the kids were not impressed.

Sometimes, I wonder if Charlie and the kids wish Sylvia acted more normally instead of relishing in reliving the olden days.

While I despise Jenna and adore Sylvia and Will’s antics, I can understand why they seem off-putting to outsiders initially.

Their relationship was intense, and they behaved like they were still in their 20s, when in reality, they should be responsible adults.

While we may want to be young and dumb, that’s only funny for a little while.

Does This Trio Know About Boundaries?

Reuniting with old friends can be complicated. People have changed over the years, and it’s even more challenging when there are three people. One friend often ends up the middleman.

That’s what happened to Wild Card (Beck Bennett). He was absolutely delightful with Sylvia.

He loved taunting her about knowing that she thought Jenna was a bitch. It was amusing watching Sylvia squirm and go off the deep end.

Watching the three of them needle each other, constantly asking “What?’ was hilarious as Sylvia and Will tried to decipher what the other one had shared with Wild Card.

Sylvia became paranoid, which is a horrible look for her cause she always does something stupid.

Combining paranoia and weed gummies gave Sylvia (Rose Byrne) some excellent comedic scenes as she recorded the guys.

She had hoped to trap them, revealing something important, and grew frustrated with their obsession with Sydney Sweeney, only to hear Will reveal he was in a sexless relationship.

Boundaries people. If he wanted her to know, he would have told her. While it was humorous, she shouldn’t have confronted him.

I’m totally Team Will. Sylvia grew just as uncomfortable when he questioned her about what sex positions she and Charlie used.

Married or engaged couples don’t go around revealing details to everyone, but I didn’t believe that Will gave up on sex, either.

He likes women way too much for that.

Wild Card Does Not Live Up to His Name

Wild Card sounded legendary, making him the ideal person to plan the party, but he seemed the most down to earth out of the three friends.

While the secret bachelor party sounded fun initially, we weren’t privy to much beyond a planned lunch and martini’s.

Why didn’t he include anyone else beyond the three amigos? Were the three of them that tight that others felt uncomfortable, or did he not have anything planned beyond the bar?

I would have pegged Wild Card for the crazy party animal, who would have gone for the stripper’s club or an elite poker club because of his name.

Instead, he turned down these options, and Sylvia chose an adult night at the aquarium. He insisted the weed gummies made him tired, but Sylvia was adament that they couldn’t go home. She seemed desperate for fun.

Who knew that the aquarium was that sexy, but Wild Card felt jet-lagged from travelling.

With only three of them at this party, there was no buffer, and it often felt like two against one. The humorous dragged out fight began by Sylvia and Will ridiculing Wild Card and hurling insults like Borezilla and Snoozer. It was funny, but it hit a nerve

When the truth came out about Sylvia and Jenna, and it was just the guys, you could tell how much they needed Sylvia to liven up that party.

Wild Card had grown up, while Will needed to party to forget how terrible his life had begun.

It said something that he crushed on women and fantasized about the body paint girls just to satisfy himself.

He knew his friends were right, and he needed to end it with Jenna. That will probably be easier said than done.

Time for the Next Jeopardy Champion

Charlie’s love of the game show Jeopardy has become a fun arc. I suspected after he kept answering questions and tuning out Sylvia that his fascination with the game would become something more.

He’ll make a fun contestant and already has an entire team, ready to help him prepare. Part of me wished we could have seen a few scenes of Stewert, Charlie, and the kids practicing.

It would have been entertaining as those kids are so proud of him and totally their dad’s children. They are more down-to-earth and loved quizzing Charlie, probably because he’s helped them with homework.

I expect this will be a longer arc and am excited to see how it affects Charlie. His POV is often overlooked except for being the loyal and sexy husband.

I’d love for him to take a more active role.

Over to you, Platonic Fanatics. What were your thoughts on Wild Card? Are you ready for Will and Jenna’s relationship to end? Will Charlie make a good Jeopardy contestant?
