Best Medicine’s Cast Rounds Out with Icons, Intrigue, and Cuteness

A great cast is the “best medicine” for a series, and that’s exactly what we have on FOX’s incoming new medical drama.

We previously expressed our excitement over the trio that would be landing Best Medicine. Josh Charles and Abigail Spencer are principled actors who have been on our screens for many years in some truly iconic roles.

And Josh Segarra is easily one of the most underrated actors in the game.

We know Josh Charles stars as Martin Best, a brilliant surgeon who abruptly leaves his illustrious career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a quaint East Coast fishing village where he spent summers as a child.

Sadly, Martin’s rude bedside manner rubs the quirky, needy locals the wrong way, and he quickly alienates the town, even though he’s all they’ve got.

Martin can expertly address any medical ailment or mystery in their town, but he mostly just wants to be left alone.

Instead, he keeps getting dragged right smack into the middle of their personal chaos, feuds, and fantasies. But no one knows that Martin’s demeanor masks a debilitating new phobia and deep-seated psychological issues that prevent him from experiencing true intimacy with anyone.

But that may change in the presence of a tenacious small village that will push him out of his comfort zone.

And the likes of Louisa, a woman who could work her way into his heart, even if it breaks Sheriff Mark Mylow’s heart in the process.

Now we have a full list of the cast and characters that we’ll meet at Port Wenn, including the legendary Annie Potts, whom we’ve seen for years through her body of work, making this project perfect for her.

Potts will be playing Aunt Sarah in this series, and it’s already a thrilling prospect to see her portray the beautiful, wise, and endearing character poised to be one of the best yet.

Aunt Sarah is a no-nonsense, salt-of-the-earth type of woman who still goes out on her fishing boat as a lobsterwoman, has a big heart beneath her seemingly hardened exterior, and plenty of secrets.

Outside of the central romance that will consist of Charles’ Best and Spencer’s Gavin, Martin Best’s dynamic with his aunt will likely be one of the most intriguing, as there are layers to their dynamic and even why they fell out of touch.

Cree will also star as Elaine Denton, the very opposite of Best. She’s energetic, ambitious, youthful, and determined to make it big, always preoccupying herself with how to become the next big YouTube star. Although she’s completely inept at her job, she’s charming enough to pull it off and test Best at every turn.

But like any small town series akin to Murder in a Small Town, Virgin River, and Sullivan’s Crossing, just to name a few, there is a collection of personalities that offer a little something to the experience and make Port Wenn what it is!

The legendary Didi Conn will star on the series as Councilwoman Geneva Potter. If you’re unfamiliar with that name, you need only watch the classic film Grease and recall how endearing Frenchie was. So, yes , Port Wenn truly will have literal legends!

Clea Lewis is best known for her voice acting, but she has also appeared in series such as Royal Pains and The Americans.

Lewis will star in Best Medicine as the town pharmacist, Sally Mylow, and based on her last name, we can likely assume that she’s the sibling of the hot town sheriff, Mark Mylow.

Stephen Spinella will also guest star on the series as Greg Garrison. He’s one of the owners of Port Wenn’s hub, The Salty Breeze, because every small town needs a place for all the locals to convene for great food, drinks, and all the town gossip.

Spinella is a true thespian, known most for his stage work, but he has also starred in Royal Pains and numerous films.

His character is also married to George Brady, played by Jason Veasey, another talented man of the stage who has also starred in Only Murders in the Building.

Cindy de la Cruz of Blue Bloods will guest star as Jeannie, the local schoolteacher.

And John DiMaggio, someone also well known for his voice work, including Futurama, will guest star as handyman Bert Large.

While Carter Shimp, who has appeared in the One Chicago franchise and The Holdovers, will play Al Large, Burt’s son.

But in the cutest and most exciting of the bunch, Will Trent‘s Betty may have some competition in the cutest, fluffiest sidekick on primetime!

Wattson will make his debut as Copernicus, and e already ant to snuggle him to bits!
